The Family Demo Day & The Future of Online Events
On March 2nd, we’ll be hosting The Family’s first Demo Day. This will be a major milestone for the startups in our first global & remote batch.
Our founders are working out of Senegal and Singapore, from Lisbon to Kiev, London to Bucharest. We have never been so convinced that entrepreneurs can truly come from anywhere; and we’re happy to see that investors globally have more and more of an appetite for funding incredible businesses wherever they’re being built.
When we first opened the application process for this batch, the first one we’ve done since going fully remote, we were really surprised by the quality of the companies that wanted to join.
We’ve had the same pleasant surprise with the investors who’ve signed up to attend our Demo Day. They include founders of publicly traded tech companies, seasoned angel investors from the Valley, some of the industry’s most important “knowledge influencers”, and representatives from some of the best funds in the world. (The event is already much busier than we expected, but we can still invite a few more investors if there are people you think should absolutely attend.)
We want to make Demo Day a great experience, which is why we decided to power it with Eventmix, one of the startups in our batch. There are a few reasons we went in this direction, but the key one is how important our brand is to us. We don’t want people to feel like it’s just their 30th Zoom call of the week. The Family’s Demo Day needed to feel special, not just in its content, but also in its format.
What stands out about Eventmix is that it’s easy for anyone to organise branded online events, customising everything from domains to font colours on each button. For customers concerned about privacy & intimacy, it’s an ideal solution because it allows for local hosting & complete white-labelling. Event attendees never have to interact with anyone but you, and only your brand stands out.
Eventmix is also special because it’s a symbol of the new kinds of founders we are attracting with our global, remote-first approach. Sergiu, Eventmix’s founder, isn’t a first-timer. He built & sold Trilulilu, the “YouTube of Romania”, which was one of Romania’s top 10 most visited sites. He then cofounded LiveRail, a monetisation platform for video publishers that Facebook ended up acquiring for half a billion dollars. And now Eventmix is his first run at a solo entrepreneurial adventure.
I met Sergiu after spending some time conversing with several major actors in the Romanian ecosystem, which is getting increasing amounts of attention since UiPath’s major success story ($25B+ market cap) and the fast growth of startups like FintechOS.
I was immediately convinced by his vision of bringing a huge market online and the enormous “supply” of events that will be unlocked by the mainstream adoption of digital (and thus cheaper) events. Clients from pharmaceutical companies to law firms have used Eventmix to host events with thousands of attendees… where it can all be managed with just an intern.
Sergiu is on the path to building a category-defining product, one that would be yet another iconic company coming out of a region that, despite its new-found stardom, is still very underrated. We’re incredibly excited to be presenting the 30 other amazing startups of the batch very soon thanks to Eventmix!
